meet Elliott Yamin. one of American Idol contestant from season 5. menurut gue, dia masuk ke top 5 best male vocalist on American Idol, ever. serius. suaranya khas dan enak banget. kalo lagi shuffle lagu dan ke play lagu dia, pasti langsung tau itu suaranya Elliott. dia audisi di Boston, nyanyi A Song For You dari Donny Hathaway dan berhasil dapet golden ticket. lagu itu juga yang bakal bikin dia bersinar di Idol. perjalanannya di idol cukup naik turun. sempet beberapa kali masuk bottom 3, cuma selamet. tapi pada akhirnya kandas di top 3. di malem itu sedih banget, soalnya selisih votenya tipis-tipis banget. bener bener tipis banget. gue inget depannya sama-sama 33%, cuma beda 2 digit dibelakang koma. result show ini gue nonton di RCTI waktu itu. setelah youtube-ing, ternyata gini voting resultnya:

dulu gue masih belom ngeh segimana bagusnya Elliott. cuma 1-2 tahun lalu pas gue download semua performance episode dari American Idol, langsung: GILA NIH COWOK BAGUS BANGET SUARANYA!!! dia salah satu dari beberapa kontestan yang hampir semua performance-nya di Idol gue suka. maksudnya suka disini bisa juga diartiin, gue jadi suka lagu yang dinyanyiin gara-gara mereka. selain Elliott, ada juga Melinda, Lakisha, Clay, Archuleta, Anthony, Richardson, terus sapalagi ya mmm dan lain-lain lah.
terus sekarang berhubung lagi gak ada kerjaan, gue mau ngerank 17 performancenya selama di Idol, menurut selera gue. menurut kuping gue yang masih suka budek ini. soooo, i'm very sorry if the rank is really subjective☺ sebelom masuk ke 17 performance itu, ada 3 performance lain gitu yang menurut gue kerennn. ini dia dua-duanya:

disini dia segrup with one of the annoying twins. the group collapsed when performed, but fortunately Elliott showed his amazing vocal ability and the judges realized that. he go through to the next round.

he was paired with Mary J. Blige to perform One. dan... kesel banget cuy dengerin Mary gak mau kalah dan sibuk sibuk teriak, sama sekali gak diem buat ngasih kesempatan ke Elliott. Elliott udah jadi kaya backing vocal. ugh bahkan Mary udah noying dan teriak gak jelas sebelum masuk ke panggung! yang bawah, pas medley top 12 gitu, dia dapet part where he sang alone. his vocal was amazingggg, not so bad if you compare it to Tamyra Gray's rendition.

oke. sekarang masuk ke yang 17 performancenya dia. gue kayaknya gakbisa ngasih komentar tiap performance, abis bingung. i just can decide whether the performance was good or bad. so, maybe, i'll just write down Simon Cowell's comments because his comments were almost right. kalimat yang di dalem tanda kutip, itu Simon's comment. here we go☺

like i said earlier, A Song for You is his secret weapon. it seems like this song was made for him (lebay). the song suits him perfectly. his rendition that night was amazing, wonderful, impeccable, masterclass, outstanding, perfect, yah whatever lah. vocab gue dikit. and the mentoring session with David Foster & Andrea Bocelli was greattt. it seemed really difficult to chose the perfect way to sing a word "remember".
